Introducing Touch Nature
Our partner, Touch Nature provides victims of human trafficking in Kolkata (Eastern part of India) with the opportunity to leave the sex trade with confidence and engage in dignified labor. They train and equip the staff with the necessary skills to produce quality soap and aromatherapy products of natural goodness that are beneficial to both human beings and the environment. Staff members also have the opportunity to receive training for managerial and administrative positions. All Touch Nature’s soaps give a luxurious lather that gives the user a spa-like experience that cleanses deeply.
Our good friend, Jo, the founder of Touch Nature, set up the organization in Nepal in 2001. Having to relocate to Kolkata, India due to the political situation in Nepal, she decided to help the struggling women of Kolkata, one of the largest red-light districts in Asia. She loved making handmade soaps and she loved helping people in need. So combining the two together was a very natural thing to do. A group of single mothers who were in need of jobs with a sewing project made handcraft items and Jo helped them to sell so they could support their children. Unable to continue sewing because of its eye straining and time consuming labor, Jo decided to give soap making a try and was surprised when it turned out to be more successful than sewing. The process of making soaps enabled her to employ and help more single mothers. Higher employment meant a higher number of lives saved, and that was exactly what Jo did. Today, Touch Nature company not only provides employment to struggling women, but also brings "Light Into The Darkness" through their spa soaps, candles and love.
